Temporary concrete barrier rail, or k-rail, is made of concrete reinforced with rebar. Loops at each end accept either a k-rail pin or each barrier can be mounted to the ground using a post. For ease of lifting, lifting holes are provided midway up the side of the section for lifting with approved hooks.

As simple as temporary concrete barrier rail looks, it is actually a sophisticated safety device designed to control a vehicle on impact. After impacting the barrier, the front wheel and bumper of the vehicle slide upward. As the vehicle becomes parallel to the barrier, the wheels contact the lower slope face and are redirected back down to the road. This action is designed to redirect the vehicle while helping to prevent it from rolling over.
