These nifty devices work by eliminating unwanted gases, vapors, aerosols, or a mix of contaminants from the air. However, they don’t supply oxygen like their Atmosphere-Supplying Respirator (ASR) counterparts.

Let’s dive into the different types of APRs:

Filtering Facepiece Respirator: These disposable wonders seal around your nose and mouth, ensuring that every breath passes through the filter. Commonly known as “particulate respirator.” (Hint: N95 is a classic example.)

Elastometric Half Mask Respirator: Reusable and versatile, these respirators boast interchangeable filters or cartridges. You can customize the filtration level to fit your needs. Plus, they’re made from rubber material that can be easily cleaned and stored. Just make sure they form a tight seal – a fit test is mandatory!

Elastomeric Full Face Respirator: When it comes to protecting your nose, mouth, and eyes, this champ has got your back. Similar to the half mask, but with extra eye coverage, it’s the ultimate all-around defender.

Powered Air Purifying Respirator: The heavy-duty warrior of the APR world. This reusable respirator comes equipped with a hood or helmet that shields the nose, mouth, eyes and ears. Connected to a battery-powered blower, it pulls air through filters and cartridges to ensure the cleanest breath.

Choose your APR wisely and breathe freer than ever. Stay safe out there!
