ANSI Z359.14-2021 FOR FALL PROTECTION IS NOW IN FULL EFFECT! 

The new standard was approved in June of 2021 and experienced a few delays but finally, as of AUGUST 1st 2023, the new standard is in effect!  

Below is the relevant update information.  

It applies to ALL SRLs (Self Retracting Lanyard).  

Overview of main updates:  

  • Strength test requirements have increased 
  • Redefined SRD types:  
  • SRL – Self Retracting Lanyard 
  • SRL-P – Personal Self Retracting Lanyard 
  • SRL-R – Rescure Self Retracting Lanyard 
  • There is NO MORE Class A and Be  
  • Classes have been replaced by a significantly revised  
  • Class 1 – for use with anchorage at or above D ring. Not to exceed 2 feet free fall  
  • Class 2 – for use with anchorage above or up to 5 ft below D ring. Not to exceed 6 feet free fall. ALL Class 2s must be leading edge 
  • Clear Class labeling must be on the housing of the lanyard.  
  • Fall clearance charts and tables must be clearly labeled close to the anchor point.  
  • Gear must include a orange warning label that is SEPERATE from the equipment.  

Gear manufactured before the August 1st 2023 deadline that meets the old standard is still safe to use and the end user can continue to use it as long as it passes inspection. However, it is no longer compliant with the most updated standard.  

It is strongly recommended to get into current compliance as soon as possible.
